Background

Unipart Expert Practice (Unipart) is the fastest growing division of the Unipart group, a multi-national company that has a turnover of £1bn annually. The group board decided that specific focus on their IT was required to help improve Unipart IT services, identify areas of cost saving and improve collaboration amongst its practitioners.

Baxter Thompson was engaged to help Unipart understand the opportunity.

Approach

Define the Strategy

  1. Lead stakeholder forums and define the high level Business Requirements.

  2. Review IT service delivery processes and identify opportunities for improvement.

  3. Review IT outsourcing contract for fitness-for-purpose specific to the division’s Business Requirements.

  4. Review IT risk exposure to the practice.

Define the Programme

  1. Review technologies to meet the Business Requirements and select the best fit for pilot.

  2. Build cost scenarios reflecting the practice’s ability to fund.

  3. Prepare an outline Roadmap demonstrating the IT journey and technology implementation.

  4. Hold a board level meeting for agreement on the recommendations.

Deliver the Benefit

  1. Lead a taskforce following Unipart “Lean” management methodology to improve infrastructure delivery lead-times.

  2. Demonstrate the opportunity and cost savings of alternative IT service delivery models.

  3. Highlight areas of risk and define policies designed to mitigate the risk.
